這場年度拉丁美洲文化節慶吸引數千民眾參與，現場有音樂、舞蹈、美食與文化表演。目擊者羅德里格茲（Valerie Rodriguez）描述，她當時正坐在餐廳旁，看到人群尖叫奔逃，「很多人叫我們趴到地板上，我們很害怕，因為不知道到底發生什麼事。」另一名攤販古蒂瑞斯（Patsy Gutierrez）表示，她正在服務顧客時，看到「一大群人」街頭狂奔，「大家都慌了起來，我們也停止服務。我覺得這種事不應該發生在這類活動中。」

安大略省省長福特（Doug Ford）在個人社群發文表示：「我對在Salsa on St. Clair Festival發生的無謂暴力深感震驚，這起事件奪走2條人命並造成多人受傷。我的心與受害者、他們的家人以及所有受影響的人同在。」他感謝多倫多警方與第一線救難人員的迅速回應，並強調「必須逮捕兇手，將其繩之以法，讓他餘生在監獄度過」。
